this stuff was before wood gripper and was used with axminster as well as foam, there was also a metal one for rooms which was nailed to the skirting.this meant it could be used on hard floors like terraza and quarry tiles.

this is from the 60,s and still around in the 70,s too. Anyone remeber fitting skirting gripper? Blooming awful stuff, you could still see the top edge of it after the carpet was fitted. You had to use a spring loaded applicator and hit it with a mallet, and fired small headed ring shanked nails.

Our firm also used stair cleats, which were slightly curved and if the carpet was stiff would push the punched out spikes flat, again useless.

Usually fitted on sub standard old stairs which are prone to breaking when you try and take the horrible things off.....

I used it in the late 60's. I was told it was for foam backed carpets, and yes it was useless.
