What a cheek I got to the job at 11:15 first thing the customer says is Ive been waiting all morning for you?
They rung me at 9 I told them Ill be there for 11 I was only 15 minutes late, Thats good for sunday!

    OK then
So I said sorry, And took a look at the H-S-L About 10-11 floating steps with 3 solid steps at the top, A top landing about 5ft wide and about 11-12ft long, All carpet still down steps and top landing,
    I quoted them £50
The woman almost fell over, There was no way I was going any lower, After 10mins of trying to get it cheaper, she agreed on the price after her husband stepped in, I threw a spanner in the works, What color door plates do you want gold or silver you need 5 of them, After some thinking about it and discussing it with her husband she asked for silver, OK that's an extra £25, (Iam trying to put the prices of my door plates up to £5 from £3)
I thought she was gonna hit me, TWENTY FIVE QUID FOR 5 DOOR BARS? I CAN GET THEM AT THE LOCAL HARDWARE SHOP FOR £3.99 I calmly replied yes but will the local hardware shop fit them for you?
As I was having fun now I said there will also be a £25 charge to lift your old carpet up. YOUR CHARGING ME TWENTY FIVE QUID TO LIFT UP AND REMOVE MY OLD CARPET, no no love not removing it just lifting it up but I will put it in your garden for you.
We agreed on £70 for fitting inc the door bars, and her husband who couldn't speak English started to lift the old carpet up, I tryed to tell him how to do it but he didn't listen, After about 15mins and only 2 steps removed and carpet all cut out I just left, packed up my tools and headed home 1 hour of my life wasted.
I had a laugh on the way home thow

I really don't know why people think iam to cheap for the work I do?
I left the house at half past 10 and got back for about 4:30 - 5Oclock with £180

  15. ukpassking

ukpassking New Member Pro Floor Fitter

Started at 12:00 finished at 3:20
    Total £110
No gripper to put down or underlay just 4 door plates

    Front bedroom 13 X 10ft

Then I moved on to the bathroom lino,

    First problem,
A small rip in the lino, I missed a nail sticking out of the floor boards.

    2nd problem,
First cut ouch...... I don't know how it happened, was very small so just left it, could not be noticed when stood up.

    3rd problem,
This lino was beginning to annoy me by this point,
I took away the bottom half of the sink because it was not screwed down and lose,
I put it down and it caught the chisel,

With the spray glue ready I fixed it.

Then on to the hall and steps,

Not a bad day, came home with £110.

A few day ago you slated me in a previous post(work dried up) for taking 2 hours to fit a toilet carpet and measuring for new carpets and you also doubted that the job came to 3500,i see where the confusion lies ,you deal in a different market to me,my customer want me to take my time and do the job properly i.e plywood the floor before putting vinyl down, they dont appreciate the cut and run method so i alway s take my time wether it is a toilet for 45.00 or an order for 3500.00.just my point of view

  22. ukpassking

I offered to plywood for £20 the customer was having none of it, just fit it on the floor boards was her words, So I did.
I told her about the sink stand, And was willing to buy her a new 1 she informed me it was already cracked when her husband fitted it, and not to worry.
your Jumping all over my back for fitting a lino after I advised the customer in a week or two you will see every floor board threw your lino, it was the customers choice. If they didnt want to spend an extra £20, What can I do ehhh?
Would you of boarded it out for free just so its a good job ehhh?
were I cut it short max it was 4mm could not see it when stood up? and once silicone was down Not a problem because it was covered, I don't usually silicone out, but today I had to.

IT WAS THE CUSTOMERS CHOICE TO GO STRAIGHT DOWN ON THE FLOOR BOARDS,
I WAS ONLY GOING TO CHARGE HER £20 TO BOARD OUT inc THE WOOD.
SINK WAS ALREADY CRACKED AND I SILICONE WHEN I FINISHED.
    WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER PIX?

SHOULD I OF REFUSED TO DO THE LINO? AND LOST THE JOB?
BOARDED IT OUT FOR FREE? AND LOSE MONEY ON THE JOB?

im shocked i would walk away from jobs like that if customer is being like that
20 to plywood a toilet inc materials is nonsense i take minimum 75 if people arent happy thats up to them they are paying for a professional job/service

    you guys are savage lol,
the lino was spot on when I left,
(cant say will be the same in 2 weeks)
But the customer knew the risks and accepted them to save £20.
Why the ### should I refuse to do a job? I never refuse to do a job,

I think you may need to calm down a bit.
If you post pictures like that in an open forum you are gonna get people telling you what they think, and to be honest even if you were instructed to lay the vinyl on that subfloor, there is no excuse for ripping it,cutting it short and smashing up the bathroom suite and then sticking it back together with spray adhesive:chris:

    And mind the language please.:deal2:

I agree with the above! sorry mate :surprised:

And £20 for supply and fit of the ply,now that is cheap :smiley2:

I personally would'nt fit cushion flor on those boards, just asking for trouble whether or not you informed them of the problems it will cause.

    but each to there own!
    ps,
This is me being picky! but put some gripper around those doorways
